Fhuair mi na faclan gun fhonn ann an cruinneachadh Cheith Thormoid MhicDhòmhnaill. Chuala mi an dà phòrt mu dheireadh aig Dòmhnall Aonghas Peutanach, fìdhlear gràdhaichte ann an Ceap Breatainn.
6 MSR: The Poor Old Woman/ The Tailor’s Stick/ The Roaring of the Sea/ America/ Tailor
This group opens with a Cape Breton march which I first heard sung by Mary Jane Lamond. The following strathspey is popular for highland dancing, though we sped it up to match the Cape Breton steps. The first reel comes from the playing of the Cape Breton piper Alec Currie under the name “More Rum for the Piper.” I found the words without a tune in the Keith Norman MacDonald Collection. The last two tunes were often played by the great Cape Breton fiddler Donald Angus Beaton.
